The measure is aimed at raising the percentage of energy that is produced from renewable sources. The government has to date been encouraging the installation of photovoltaic units through incentives such as feed-in tariffs but this would be the first time that their installation would become mandatory.
Who is eligible for energy subsidies in Malta?
Eligible are new photovoltaic installations and new wind energy installations, which have not benefitted from other support. Tenders for small installations - Malta has a premium tariff, which is awarded through a tender held by the Ministry for Energy and Water Management.
