Battery packs also contain sensors, circuitry, and other electrical and electronic components. Further complicating the task for recyclers is the wide range of battery chemistries employed in the automotive industry (LFP, LCO, NCA, LMO, NMC, etc.), each with its own distinct mix of materials.
How to design a battery pack?
As a battery pack designer it is important to understand the cell in detail so that you can interface with it optimally. It is interesting to look at the Function of the Cell Can or Enclosure and to think about the relationship between the Mechanical, Electrical and Thermal design.
How many batteries are in a battery pack?
Inside the pack, 16 modules are electrically connected in 8S2P configuration. Each module is equipped with an individual BMU which monitors the voltage and temperature status of the 12 batteries (Fig. 7 a). The status information of each single cell is then transmitted to the central BMS in BJB by the cable harness (Fig. 7 c).
What are the two basic types of battery packs?
There are two basic types of battery packs: primary and secondary or rechargeable. Primary batteries are disposable, non-rechargeable devices. They must be replaced once their energy supply is depleted. Battery packs are constructed from two or more individual cells or batteries.
How to design a battery pack for electric vehicles?
When you think about designing a battery pack for electric vehicles you think at cell, module, BMS and pack level. However, you need to also rapidly think in terms of: electrical, thermal, mechanical, control and safety.
